An antique Hudson River style oil painting on canvas by listed artist Henry A. Duessel (New York/Germany; 1858 – 1919). The painting depicts a picturesque mountain landscape, featuring a road along a stream in a foothill forest. The painting is signed to the lower right and presented in an antique wooden frame with ornate cast surface embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire.

Little biographical information is known about Henry Duessel. He was probably born in Germany, emigrating to the United States and settling in Manhattan. He painted luminous landscapes in the Hudson River Style, as well as panoramic maritime scenes. In the early part of the 20th century his paintings were sold through the fine art departments of Abraham & Strauss in Manhattan and Frederick A. Loeser & Company in Brooklyn and his works were also widely reproduced as postcards and lithographs.
