Circa 1890 Antique Handwoven Silk Crepe Formal Five Crested Furisode Kimono

A circa 1890 antique Japanese handwoven silk crepe five crested furisode kimono, hand decorated with multicolor yuzen resist-dyed design, shusu gold couching and embroidered accents. This black kimono features kiku (chrysanthemum), botan (peony), tachibana and other flowers; kasamatsu (pine), tsuzumi (hand drum) and other motifs; and kanoko, seigaiha (wave) and other patterns. Also included are five kamon crests, two to the chest and three along the top of the back. The lower portion is lined in the same silk crepe design as the exterior and the remaining interior is lined in red kiku (chrysanthemum), kusudama (decorative ball) and leaf pattern silk damask.

- basting stitches coming loose, sleeve is torn along seam.
