A circa 1915 antique Japanese handwoven omeshi silk michiyuki jacket, hand decorated in metallic, velvet and multicolor threads. This black karajishi jacket depicts lions in off-white, red and light green threads, with keman-mon patterns to lions’ manes and tails. They are placed in the center of a kusudama (medicine ball) comprised of red kiku (chrysanthemum) flowers and light green leaves, with long red cords with tasseled ends. The off-white silk interior offers sensu (folding fan) with hand stamped metallic gold ishidatami (stone tatami) to a pink background and also hand-painted storied designs in pink with metallic gold detailing, featuring bridge, fish, sakura (cherry blossom), kawa (river), sasanoha (leaves of bamboo grass), yama (mountains), kasamatsu (pine) and other motifs. This jacket has a U-neckline and fabric covered button closures.
