Item Details

A vintage hand-knotted Persian Josheghan area rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of madder red, indigo, cornflower, marigold, rose, and eggshell. It commences with a diamond medallion infilled with diamond and floral motifs and flanked by palmette pendants. The irregular field is delineated with sawtooth edges and populated with flowering plants, diamonds, rosettes, and cruciforms. Framing the field are barber pole guard borders, geometric subsidiaries, and a primary border comprised of a stylized herati design over indigo. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Made in Iran’.
