Hand-Knotted Indo-Persian Bakhshayesh Heriz Wool Carpet Runner

Item Details

A hand-knotted Indo-Persian Bakhshayesh Heriz carpet runner. This wool pile rug is rendered in a variegated palette of madder red, indigo, cornflower, olive, sand, and cream. It commences with a chain of five polyagonal medallions, each comprised of geometric floral motifs and flanked by palmette pendants. The elongated field is densely populated with inward facing clusters of floral and foliate patterns, and extends to corner spandrels delineated with sawtooth edges. Framing the field are a pair of solid guard borders, while the primary border displays a samovar pattern over madder red. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges, a brief kilim skirt, and wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
