A Burmese Mandalay (1853-1948) reclining Buddha in dry black lacquer with gilt decoration and inset mirror glass embellishment along the edge of the robe and at the band at the forehead. The Buddha is in the state of parinirvana and reclines on one hip with head propped on his elbow with his robe in an arrangement of folds. Idealized youthful facial features and tightly coiled hair are typical characteristics of the Mandalay period. Unmarked.
