A vintage hand-knotted Persian Heriz area rug. This wool pile rug is worked in tones of red, blue, brown, pink, and ivory. It commences with a polyagonal medallion comprised of rectilinear florals and flanked by palmette pendants. The lozenge field is delineated by stepped edges, densely populated with oak leaves, rosettes, and vines, and grounded by ivory spandrels infilled with complementary motifs. Framing the field are floral meander and running water guard borders, while the primary border displays an unresolved samovar pattern. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Origin: Iran’.
