Boys' 1870 Antique Handwoven Silk Ceremonial Crested Miyamairi Infant Kimono

A boys’ 1870 antique Japanese handwoven silk ceremonial miyamairi (first shrine visit) infant crested kimono, decorated in sumi-e and yuzen resist-dyed design and including metallic gold embroidery. This black kimono features two carp swimming against turbulent waters and craggy rocks with kasamatsu (pine) in the background. Additionally, there are five yuzen resist-dyed incomplete mon crests, two to the top center of the front and three along the top of the back. The kimono has sash ties embroidered to the front, and the interior is lined in white silk.

Condition

- some discoloration throughout, small stains to one sleeve interior, some staining to reverse of other sleeve, believed to be never worn.
