A child’s circa 1880 Meiji Period (1868-1912) Japanese handwoven silk formal crested miyamairi (first shrine visit) infant kimono. This black kimono features a sumi-e sensu (folding fan) design to the bottom front and back, including tsuru (crane), shibakusa and other grasses and motifs. It includes five yuzen resist-dyed crossed feather mon (crests), two to the front at the chest and three to the back along the top. The kimono ties to the front with sashes attached with embroidery. It is partially lined at the uraeri (neckband lining) in off-white silk.

- small white stains to interior of one sleeve, small white stains to reverse.
