A 1960s abstract oil painting on canvas by Oscar Murillo (1940-2017). Portrayed in an Abstract Expressionist manner with loose gestural brushstrokes, this work features irregular geometric and organic shapes in various colors, embedded within a gray abyss. The work is signed and marked with the artist’s estate stamp to the verso. It is presented in a beveled wood frame with aluminum lining.

Murillo was a prominent figure in the 1960s and 1970s Los Angeles art scene. Born in Mexico, he immigrated to the United States and settled permanently in the San Fernando Valley. He studied at San Fernando Valley State College (known today as Cal State Northridge) and received his Bachelors and Masters of Fine Arts. Murillo remained active in his community, teaching art and exhibiting his art in galleries in San Fernando Valley, CA and Santé Fe, NM.
