An original oil painting on canvas board by well-listed American artist Robert Emmett Owen (New York/Connecticut/Massachusetts; 1878 – 1957). The painting depicts a winter landscape marked by long shadows from thin trees that partially shroud a structure nestled in the snow. The painting is signed to the lower left. It is presented in an antique wooden frame with gold tone finish and a hanging wire.

Owen began his studies at the Drury Academy in North Adams, Massachusetts before working as an illustrator for Life magazine. He continued his studies at the Eric Pape School of Art in Boston, and during his time in Boston contributed to the Boston Globe, National Magazine, Brown Brook Magazine, Scribners Magazine, and Harper’s Monthly. He then moved to New York to study at the Art Students League, the Chase School, and the National Academy of Design. Finally, Owen moved to rural Connecticut, where he would produce most of his best-known work.
