French Renaissance Revival Beech Open Armchair, Circa 1880

A French Renaissance Revival beech open armchair, circa 1880. The oversized, dark-stained frame features two horizontal, foliate-carved splats with scrolled edges, the top example of which is centered by a green man. The back is flanked by a pair of stiles with croquette moldings on the finials continuing to curved arms with winged-griffin terminals. The spring-filled seat is covered in old, if not original, red velvet with brass tacks along the edges and the chair rises on block-and-turned legs joined by two scrolled and relief-carved, front stretchers.
