An 1855 oil landscape painting on canvas by listed French artist and art critic Louis Leroy (1812 – 1885). This peaceful scene depicts a golden sunset silhouetting the darkening foreground of a hillside with curling trees and large boulders surrounding a standing figure, who observes a herd of cows irrigating themselves in the glistening river below. Artist signature and date are signed to the lower left. This work is mounted in a moulded gilt wood frame, equipped to hang.

Condition

- craquelure and light accretion across painting. Paint is lifting from canvas in several minor areas throughout composition. Frame is worn, with areas of chipped moulding in several areas.
