French Gothic Revival Oak and Rouge Marble Sideboard, Late 19th Century

A French Gothic Revival oak and rouge marble sideboard, late 19th century. The two-part case features an upper section with a molded cornice above a pair of paneled doors with blind tracery concealing one adjustable shelf. The doors are flanked by four fully-turned pilasters as well as two open shelves over four shorter pilasters backed by three relief-carved, linen-fold panels. The projecting, lower section has a removable, rouge marble top above linen-fold side panels and four aligned and dovetailed frieze drawers with brass, ring handles. Directly below are four aligned doors separated by fully-turned pilasters with ornate, blind-tracery decorating the drawer and door fronts. The doors open to a single, vacant compartment and the sideboard rises on a molded base.

Condition

- to fair; upper section with a repair to shelf façade where it meets the two, right-most pilasters, there are a few resulting cracks; marble top is possibly later and with a few small chips; lower cabinet missing shelf and shelf in upper cabinet is later; case with other various scratches, chips, marks, and abrasions consistent with age and use; structurally stable.
