A Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print by Kitagawa Utamaro (喜多川 歌麿, circa 1753 – 1806), featuring the portrait of a bijin beautiful woman in an elaborately patterned kimono. This hashira-e sized print is signed ‘Utamaro hitsu’ (歌麿筆) in-block along the upper right edge. It is presented behind a off-white mat, under glass, in a wood frame with a hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- fading throughout, toning and stains across print surface. Water damage to lower edge. Tear to mat to upper edge. Print is very delicate and was not taken out of the frame.
