Joseph Levin (Russian-American; 1894-1979) was a notable avant-garde painter, born in Russia, and lived in Russia, France and New York. His work was influenced by the Russian abstract painter Kasimir Malevich. In 1925 Levin moved to Paris and was associated with the School of Paris Painters, which included artists such as Marc Chagall, Jean Dubuffet, and Henri Matisse.
