Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Nain Wool and Part Silk Area Rug

A vintage hand-knotted Persian Nain area rug. This wool and part silk pile rug is rendered in a palette of vegetable dyed cornflower, cerulean, sapphire, umber, sand, buff, and ivory, made of lamb’s wool per consignor. It commences with an eight-point medallions comprised of floral motifs and flanked by palmette pendants. The oval field is densely populated with arabesqued vines, floral blossoms, and palmettes, and extends to corner spandrels infilled with complementary designs. Framing the field are barber pole guard and secondary borders, while the primary border displays a stylized herati motif over ivory. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Made in Iran’, circa early to mid 1980s.
