Bruce Beasley 2006 Abstract Bronze Sculpture

Item Details

Bruce Beasley (American; b. 1939)
Untitled, 2006
Bronze
Signed and dated at base

A bronze sculpture by self described ‘unrepentant modernist’ Bruce Beasley (Los Angeles, b. 1939), signed at the base and dated 2006. The untitled bronze sculpture is a tumble of interlocked cubes, seemingly a study in the contradiction between organic and tectonic form. Sculpture by Bruce Beasley, published on the occasion of the artist’s 45 year retrospective exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California in 2005 is generously included.

Bruce Beasley attended Dartmouth College and the University of California, Berkley. In 1960, he was discovered by the curator of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and his work was shown in an assemblage of rather good company including Jasper Johns, Louise Nevelson, Robert Rauschenberg and Willem de Kooning. At the age of twenty-two, Beasley was the youngest artist to have work accepted in the museums permanent collection. To date, Bruce Beasley’s work has been exhibited in dozens of museums and he has been included in group shows worldwide.
