An oil painting on canvas by very well-listed American artist Thomas Corwin (T.C.) Lindsay (Ohio; 1839 – 1907). The painting depicts a winter landscape, featuring a pair of stout structures standing along the banks of a frozen body of water. The sun peaks through clouds above, casting a hazy glow over the icy scene. The painting is signed to the lower right and is presented in a wooden frame with a hanging wire to the verso.

Thomas Corwin Lindsay was a Cincinnati native and self-taught artist known for his landscapes, portraits, and animal studies. He briefly studied in Europe after the Civil War. Lindsay also traveled through Pennsylvania and the New England states. The artist was an early member of the Cincinnati Art Club and painted within the Queen City until his death in 1907. Lindsay’s works are represented in the permanent collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum and Springfield Museum of Art.
Condition
- to fair. Extensive craquelure with areas of lift across painting surface. Paint loss at edges, most notably to lower right. Light accretion throughout.
