An original oil painting on panel by by very well-listed American painter Thomas Corwin (T.C.) Lindsay (Ohio; 1839 – 1907), titled In the Fields. The painting depicts a farmer working in a grassy clearing. The view overlooks the hillside on which his farmhouse stands, backed by shadowy foothills. The painting is signed in black to the lower left and is presented in a wormy chestnut frame with a hanging wire to the verso.

Thomas Corwin Lindsay was a Cincinnati native and self-taught artist known for his landscapes, portraits, and animal studies. He briefly studied in Europe after the Civil War. Lindsay also traveled through Pennsylvania and the New England states. The artist was an early member of the Cincinnati Art Club and painted within the Queen City until his death in 1907. Lindsay’s works are represented in the permanent collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum and Springfield Museum of Art.
