Philip Evergood was a Jewish American painter known for his Social Realist paintings, sculptures, and prints. The artist received his formal education from the Slade School in London, the Art Students League in New York, and the Académie Julian in Paris. During the 1930s, Evergood worked on WPA murals, establishing his Social Realist style. Within 20 years, the artist would abandon that style in favor of mythology, symbolism, and biblical themes. A celebrated 20th century artist, his works are held at numerous prestigious locations throughout the world. His works are included at the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the Tate, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and more.
