A 1942 signed first printing of A Witness Tree by Pulitzer Prize winning poet Robert Frost (1874 -1963). Published by Henry Holt and Company New York, this copy is signed and inscribed by Frost to the front fly leaf. Bound in the original greenish-blue cloth, with gilt lettering on front cover and spine and complete with the pictorial dust jacket with wrapper designed by Alan Haemer. Presentation copy, inscribed by Frost on the front free endpaper, “To Ray Carey/from/Robert Frost/with best wishes/Cambridge 1952.”
A Witness Tree won the Pulitzer Prize in 1943 and contains poems encompassing both tragedy and new love. The best known poem from the collection is the patriotic ‘The Gift Outright’ which was recited at President Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961.

Condition
Overall the book is good shape consistent with age. The cover is in good shape. The dust jacket is stained with minor scuffs in the corners and a tear along the bottom. The plastic sheet over the dust jacket is also torn. There is some minor yellowing and some minor foxing.
