A late 19th century oil painting on canvas by Ohio-based artist Thomas Corwin Lindsay (1839-1907). Portrayed in an impressionistic manner with loose brushstrokes and textural impasto, this work features a series of yellow mums cascading across the canvas. The work is signed ‘T.C. Lindsay’ to the lower left and presented in a gilt and gesso wood frame. A label from The Closson Art Galleries of Cincinnati is adhered to the verso.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Thomas Lindsay was a well-known painter of landscapes, animal subjects and occasionally portraits. He displayed an interest in painting from an early age and took to the act of expression quite naturally. He studied in Dusseldorf, Germany then returned to Cincinnati in 1857 where he taught students in his Fourth Street studio and made an earnest living from the sale of his masterful landscapes. Lindsay’s work has been collected and exhibited by the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and other institutions.
