An oil painting on canvas titled County Fair by Ohio-based artist Clarence Klatt (20th century), created in 1961. Portrayed in a post-impressionistic manner with vibrant colors and rough textural impasto, this work features a fair scene with a carousel and people under a large festive tent. The work is signed ‘C Klatt’ to the lower left. It is presented in a wood frame with a gray finish. Two descriptive labels are adhered to the verso. An inscription to the stretcher bar verso and a descriptive label indicate that this work won first prize at the Clark County Fair. The stretcher bar verso is also marked with a stamp from Klatt Welding Shop, located in New Carlisle, Ohio.

Based in New Carlisle, Clarence Klatt was a third generation of blacksmiths in his family and he continued to run the family business after his father’s death,. However, in addition to blacksmithing, he enjoyed painting and became particularly celebrated for his paintings of colorful landscapes and fair. Klatt studied at the Dayton Art Institute on a scholarship, and exhibited his work along Route 69, the Clark County Fair, and other local venues.
