An oil painting on canvas by listed German artist George Henry Laport (1799 – 1873), created in 1837. This work features a hunting scene with English men on horseback, running alongside their hunting dogs in a rural landscape. The work is signed ‘G.H. Laporte’ and dated to the lower left. It is presented in a gilt and gesso wood frame. Adhered to the stretcher bar verso is a label from W. Freeman & Son Ltd. Picture Restorers, dated ‘9-10-67’.
Sporting artist George Henry Laporte was especially known for his paintings of hunting, racing, and Arabian horses. He was the son of the watercolorist John Laporte (1761-1839) and a founding member of the Royal Society of British Artists. Engravings after his paintings were created and published by The Sporting Magazine and other various journals. Significantly, Laporte was appointed as the Animal Painter for the King of Hanover.

- painting has been relined with canvas; craquelure scattered throughout painting; small spot of paint chipping to lower center; some rubbing and paint loss along edges; some wear in frame includes small chips, stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout.
