A 19th century Tibetan Buddhist thangka painting, featuring the central figure Tsongkhapa (ཙོང་ཁ་པ།, circa 1357- circa 1419), the monk and teacher who helped form the Gelug school of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. He is often believed to be the incarnation of Manjushri, hence he is depicted with the khadga sword and pustaka book held by lotus flowers at his shoulders and holds a book on his lap. He wears the yellow cap and robes of a monk. The surrounding vignettes possibly depict scenes and events from his life. This work is presented under glass, in a simple wood frame with gilt finish.
