Hand-Knotted Indo-Persian Heriz Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Indo-Persian Heriz area rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of madder red, indigo, cornflower, goldenrod, camel, and ivory. It commences with a large scale polygonal medallion, infilled with rectilinear floral motifs and flanked by palmette pendants. The lozenge field is delineated with stepped edges and populated with floral and foliate patterns, which extend to the layered spandrels. Framing the field are carnation meander guard and secondary borders, while the primary border is distinguished by a samovar pattern over madder red. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges, a brief kilim skirt, and cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
