Item Details
An antique hardcover atlas, the Geographie Blauiane with maps after Dutch cartographer Willem Blaeu (1571-1638), published by his son Jean Blaeu. The original, titled Atlas Novus, was published by Willem Blaeu in 1635, which became popular in the Netherlands and surrounding countries and therefore continued to be published by his apprentice sons after his death and well into the 1670s. The volume is printed on laid paper, and features twenty-eight engraved maps, most of which are hand-tinted. It is bound in a full leather hardcover, with a stamped crest to the front board and a paneled spine with stamped and gilt lettering and designs. The page edges are also gilded.
