A Smithsonian Imari ware collection features four plates and five mugs. All are accented by richly colored patterns, highlighted with gold. It is modeled off the 200-year-old tradition of Japanese Imari porcelain which were decorated with designs of flowers, plants, birds and geometric patterns painted in under-glaze blue and over-glazed red on a white background.
