Antique Qing Dynasty Chinese Silk Robe with Forbidden Stitch
Item Details
An antique Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) Chinese silk robe. The Manchu woman’s long jacket is made of navy silk featuring flowers of the four seasons and Chinese symbols of fertility and longevity including bats, butterflies, peaches and pomegranates. The embroidery is executed with the forbidden knot (also known as Peking knot stitch) and satin stitch in a palette of roses, blues, gray, peach and aqua. It is lined in teal brocade silk and trimmed with binding and decorative stitching at the collar and hem.
