A hand-knotted Persian Hamadan area rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of pale pinks and reds,greens, blues and yellows, centered by a hexagonal pendant medallion framed by rectilinear elements. The lozenge field is populated with tree of life motifs, diamonds, lobed rosettes, and geometric forms, and extends to midnight blue corner spandrels. Framing the field are reciprocal guard borders, while the primary border displays a shekeri design over ivory. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges that have been reinforced and wool warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Hand Made of Iran’.
