A mid-to-late 20th-century watercolor painting on paper of a hunting scene titled There’s More than Cider in the Air by listed American artist Clayton Seagears (1897 – 1983). This work features a spotted hunting dog tracking through an autumnal forest with the hunter waiting behind in the left middle-ground. Signed to the lower left, the work is presented under glass, double-matted, and housed in a gold-tone gesso and wood frame. To the verso is a frame label and a descriptive label with a small printed image of the painting.

Largely self-taught as an artist, Clayton Seagears studied zoology and journalism at the University of Michigan. He worked as a Game Research Investigator for the New York State Conservation Department and later served as the Director of the Division of Conservation Education. In 1946, he founed The Conservationist magazine as the official publication of the New York State Conservation Department. Having developed a specialty in producing wildlife and sporting art, much of his work was featured in The Conservationist, The Hunters Encyclopedia, Field and Stream, Colliers, and the Saturday Evening Post, among other publications.
