An oil on canvas painting by listed British artist Robert Heyer-Hayes (b. 1920). This painting depicts a narrow canal in Venice, Italy surrounded by buildings and rendered in broad, colorful strokes. It is framed with artist biography and hanging wire to verso. Heyer-Hayes has signed this piece with the pseudonym he used to sign many of his works: Laye.
Heyer-Hayes attended the Industrial School of Arts when World War II interrupted his studies and as an occupational soldier he went to Austria. After the war, he continued his studies at the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts where he furthered his career. He is known for his depictions of European landscapes and cities.
