F. Koller Royal Vienna Painted Porcelain Urn "Raub der Europa"

A hand painted Royal Vienna urn, signed by the artist, F. Koller. This two-part porcelain vase with the ‘face of Zeus’ handles on either side, features an urn-shaped top mounted to a square base. The urn is painted with gold painted details and an elaborate, colorful design which depicts a scene from the story, Raub der Europa in which the god, Zeus, deceives Europa and appears as a docile, white bull, then runs away with her. The base is marked with the shield (often thought to be a beehive) maker’s mark in blue along with the title of the artwork.

Condition

- top is somewhat loose from base; fracturing inside the base around center bolt
