Hand-Knotted Transylvanian Nain Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Transylvanian Nain area rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of cornflower, cocoa, custard, and indigo and centered with a eight-point medallion comprised of purling vines, palmettes, and vasiforms. The lozenge field is densely populated with complementary designs including oak leaves, floral buds, and blossoms, and grounded by ornate spandrels with patterns mirroring the field. Framing the field are floral meander guard and secondary borders, while the primary border displays a palmette grounded herati motif_ over custard. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges, a brief kilim skirt, and wool warp fringe with a bi-colored braid detail. A label to the reverse reads ‘Origin Tran’ with an ‘Iran’ tag.
