A 1641 third revised edition of The English Gentleman; and the English Gentlewoman by Richard Brathwaite (1588-1673). It is a guide to conduct, personal virtues, and education of the nobility of both genders of 17th century English society. This is the third edition, with four parts in one volume plus supplementary material, published by John Dawson of London. It is illustrated with a steel engraved frontispiece as well as wood engraved capitals and accents to the beginning of each section. It is printed on laid paper and bound in a full leather hardcover with raised bands to the spine.

Condition

- both boards detached, some chipping to spine, underlining to some passages by a previous owner, pages somewhat warped.
