A set of twelve early 20th century Royal Doulton plates featuring images from the Charles Dana Gibson book A Widow and Her Friends. Each plate features a central image and is decorated with blue foliate designs. Image titles include They Go Fishing, She Looks For Relief Among Some Of The Old Ones, Mr Waddles Arrives Late And Finds Her Card Filled, They All Go Skating, A Message From The Outside World, Failing To Find Rest And Quiet In The Country She Decides To Return Home, Miss Babbles, The Authoress Calls And Reads Aloud, They Take A Morning Run, Some Think That She Has Remained In Retirement Too Long. Others Are Surprised That She Is About So Soon., She Is Disturbed By A Vision Which Appears To Be Herself, She Goes Into Colors, and She Finds Some Consolation In Her Mirror. The undersides bear the maker’s mark, placing production between 1900-10.
