A mid 20th-century watercolor painting on Strathmore drawing board by listed American illustrator Lucile Patterson Marsh (1890-1978). This work features an illustration of a young fisherman seated in his boat and casting his rod. The work is signed ‘Lucile Patterson’ to the lower left. An embossed Strathmore stamp is marked to the lower left corner. The drawing is not mounted and remains unframed.

A student of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Archipenko School of Sculpture, Lucile Patterson Marsh was a prominent illustrator known for her depictions of children and domestic subjects. Her work was featured in various magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Home Companion and Cosmoplitan. Marsh also created advertisements for Jell-O, Ivory Soap, and Pet Milk, among other brands and products. The Artists Guild of New York and The Society of Illustrators are among the artist associations of which she was a member.

Condition

- some toning and minor stains throughout margins; wear throughout paperboard edges including small tears, curling, and fraying.
