Hand-Knotted Gregorian Pakistani "Kohi Sultan" Wool Area Rug

Item Details

A hand-knotted Pakistani Kohi Sultan area rug from Arthur Gregorian Oriental Rugs. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of cochineal red, sapphire, cerulean, mint, goldenrod, rose, blush, wheat, and ivory. It commences with a quatrefoil medallion, comprised of intricate floral motifs and flanked by palmette pendants. The lozenge field is densely populated with oak leaves, racemes, palmettes, and arabesqued vines, and extends to layered spandrels infilled complementary designs. Framing the field are floral meander guard and secondary borders, while the primary border displays a stylized herati motif over sapphire. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges, a brief kilim skirt, and wool warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Country of Origin: Pakistan’.
