Vintage Chinese Carved and Painted Sign

Item Details

A Chinese carved and painted sign featuring three large gold painted calligraphy characters on a black ground with a distressed finish. Reading ‘Hall of Gathered Jewels’ (聚寳堂 Ju bao tang) with a smaller inscription reading ‘Wu zaho’ (吳照). Dated ‘fire horse’ year in the sexagenary cycle (丙午年), likely indicating the sign was constructed in 1966. The sign has hooks to the top for hanging.

Condition

-large chips and loss of finish to the borders; the gold paint is worn.
