An ink drawing on paper titled Eddie Murphy by Cincinnati-based artist Aaron Evans (20th/21st century), created in 2017. Featuring a stylized illustration of the actor’s face, this work is portrayed in the artist’s trademark style with simplified shapes and black delineations against a stark white ground. The title of the work is handwritten along the lower edge. Mounted on a black surface, the work is presented under glass with white matting, and housed in a white wood frame.

Aaron Evans’ work reflects on popular culture and his personal life. He draws portraits of celebrities and cartoon characters in a style reminiscent of caricature, exaggerating the best-known characteristics in a portrayal that is sometimes humorous, sometimes straightforward. These portraits inhabit a blank space, giving all focus to the celebrities themselves. Evans also records information in meticulous lists with his careful handwriting, such as birth dates, addresses of friends, and cast lists of his favorite movies and cartoons.
