Two untitled ink drawings on illustration boards by Romando ‘Manny’ Love (American; 20th/21st century), created in 2014 and 2013. Each work features handwritten phrases or statements about the ‘New Age World’ on illustration board, one written in black ink and the other in red ink. The work written in red ink is dated and signed ‘Manny Love – R.L.’ to the verso. The other work is dated to the lower left; it is inscribed and signed ‘Manny Love As Romando R. Love’ to the verso. Each work remains unframed.
Signing many of his works as “Romando Love as Manny Love,” Manny Love embodies the concept of the artist as an extension of one’s personality. His colorful creations reflect his admiration of jazz, classical, new age and rock music. Using a variety of media, he works with one image or word sets to build up a series of work ranging in size, up to 20 pieces each. These prolific bodies of work exist parenthetically and parallel to one another, never to be revisited or reinvestigated. From his New Age People of Jazz, 2007 to his series Evil Kung Fu Fighting Women of 2010, he expresses the ongoing struggle between good and evil, past and present, always with a nod to the utopian idea of a “New Age World.’
