Chinese Gilt Open Work Phoenix Bed Canopy

A vintage painted Chinese bed canopy. This work has an open fretwork design with a red painted and finish and gold detailing. The pierced rectangular center medallion features a carved foliate and phoenix motif and boasts a gold painted finish. The work was possibly originally part of a pair, with the other screen likely decorated with dragons suggesting use as a wedding bed. Unfinished.
