An ink and colored pencil drawing on paper titled Building a Home by Cincinnati-based artist Heidi Hamms (20th/21st century), created in 2016. This work features a complex web of intertwining curvilinear lines and curving segments filled with various pastel hues. The work is signed, titled, and dated to the paper verso. Adhered to the verso is a descriptive label from Visionaries + Voices with the organization’s mission. The drawing is not mounted and remains unframed.

Heidi Hamms explores themes of family relationships and personal memories through her “zentangle” drawings. She is sensitive to color as it relates to emotion and can exude serenity. Allowing her pen to guide her drawings through a stream of consciousness, Hamms discovers the subject of each piece during the process of creation instead of beforehand.
