An early Rookwood Pottery vellum landscape plaque titled ‘Quiet Waters’ by Rookwood designer Lorinda Epply (American, 1874 – 1951). The plaque features an atmospheric landscape with a placid stream lined with tall trees to the foreground and a treeline to the horizon beneath a pink-tinted sky. The plaque is signed with the artist’s monogram to the lower right corner, also with title and artist name to a label to the verso. The plaque is displayed in a vintage stained wood frame with decorative gilded edge and includes wall mounting hardware to the verso.

Lorinda Epply attended Cincinnati Art Academy and studied ceramics at Columbia University. In 1904 she became a decorator, a position she held at Rookwood Pottery until 1948. Epply also took a course in weaving at Cranbrook Art Academy and later taught weaving. She is best known for her Rookwood vellum vases and plaques.
