Robert H. Whitmore was a painter, printmaker and draughtsman born in Dayton, Ohio on February 22, 1890. Whitmore studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cincinnati Art Academy, deriving his impressionistic style from the artistic movement of the time. Whitmore preferred to work directly from nature, believing that it produced an honest interpretation of the world around us. In the 1920s, Whitmore began teaching at the Dayton Art Institute before settling into a position at Antioch College for thirty years.

- significant discoloration to papers; edge wear with minor tears and dents, especially in corners of largest piece; foxing to paper; matted piece has surface tears and peeling to both faces of mat board from previous adhesives.
