A European mid 19th century oil painting signed ‘Siebert’. The half-length portrait depicts a middle aged woman styled in an austere manner dressed in black with hair pulled back and wearing a cross on a cord around her neck. The work is signed to the upper right corner. It is marked in German to the verso ‘Malerleinwand Fabrik von A. Schutzman in München’ (artist’s canvas made by A. Schutzman in Munich).

- overpainting particularly to the upper lip and hair; craquelure throughout; some warping to canvas; stretcher marks; mark to the left of the painting; abrasions and paint loss along the edges of the canvas; item tested under black light.
