A pen and ink sketch of a woman by listed French-Armenian artist Jean Jansem (1929 – 2013). The woman is standing, supporting herself on her elbow against a small table and looking into the distance. It is signed in the upper right corner. The drawing is presented in a pink silk mat under glass in a thin gold toned frame.
Jansem was born in Turkey and emigrated to Greece before his family moved to Paris in the 1930’s. In Paris during the 1930’s he studied art in the studios around Mountparnasse and later at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs. His works are widely exhibited and collected and he is known as an artist of unfortunate or unhappy people.
