An early 20th-century oil painting on canvas titled Jay’s House by well-listed American artist Victor Coleman Anderson (1882 – 1937). Featuring a loosely-rendered farmhouse, this work is titled, signed, and inscribed to the verso, reading: ’Jay’s House’ – Unfinished / by V.C. Anderson. The canvas remains unframed.

Son of Hudson River School painter Frank Anderson, Victor Coleman Anderson was an illustrator and painter who studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He also studied under Birge Harrison, Hobart Nichols, and Herman Dudley Murphy. Anderson was a member of the Grand Central Art Galleries, Salmagundi Club and National Academy of Design. The artist also created illustrations for children’s books and magazines including Life, Collier’s, Country Gentleman, and The Ladies Home Journal, among others.
