1953 Queen Elizabeth II Limed Oak Coronation Chair

Item Details

A limed oak side chair, labeled no. 78, from the June 2nd, 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, held at Westminster Abbey. The frame has a limed finish, upholstered in original blue upholstery faded to drab green with gold trimming. A crown cipher and ERII, is embroidered in gold to an upper corner of the back. The bottom webbing retains a tag with Section AA2, in red pencil. Invited guests were given the opportunity to purchase the chair upon which they sat during the ceremony. This chair (#78), was used by Sir Joycylin Lucas, a Member of Parliament representing the city of Portsmouth.
